Shredded Beef Fried Wantons

I love wantons! I could eat them for every meal and never get tired. While we were dating, my husband introduced me to this shredded meat, deep-fried version and I’ve been a fan ever since. They’re a fun appetizer, but also make a great meal

Easy Christmas Candy Cane Cookies

Easy Christmas Candy Cane Cookies

One of my favorite Christmas memories is making these easy Candy Cane Cookies with my family. The shaping sometimes came out a little funky, but they tasted amazing nonetheless. We always made several batches and delivered them to neighbors and family. Definitely a crowd favorite!

Servings 1 person

Ingredients

  • 1 medium russet or red potato roughly 180grams / just over 1/2lb
  • 1 tbsp butter or oil
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 tsp granulated garlic optional
  • 1/4 tsp granulated onion optional
  • freshly grated parmesan cheese optional

Instructions

PREP

  • Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
  • Wash and dry your potato of choice. There's no need to peel it!
  • Grate your potato onto a cheesecloth, thin kitchen towel, or 3-5 layers of paper towels.
  • Roll up the shredded potato and wring out as much water as you possibly can. This helps your hashbrown get nice and crispy!
  • Add your salt pepper, and optional garlic and onion seasoning to your potato shreds and toss around it with your hands.

COOK

  • Add your butter or oil (or both if you're fancy) to your pan and swirl it around to distribute it evenly.
  • Sprinkle your shredded potato in your hot pan to form a round patty, roughly 1/4inch thick.
  • Using a spatula, press the hashbrown into shape.
  • Cook over medium heat for 3-5 minutes before attempting to flip it.
  • You should see the underside looking crispy and golden brown. You should also be able to move the hashbrown around the pan without it braking apart. That's when you know it's ready to flip.
  • Carefully flip over your hashbrown using a spatula and add more butter or oil as needed.
  • Cook for another 3-5 minutes or until the other side is a crisp, golden brown.
  • Gently move your hashbrown to a plate and optionally grate fresh parmesan over it and enjoy!
